Readable cattle and hog auction data show steers, cows, bulls, veal calves and sheep trading with mixed to strong demand. Prices range across weight classes with High-Choice and Prime notes and substantial farm-returned calf figures amid steady to higher comparisons from prior days.
The Green Dragon market on Friday April 14 reported receipts of 74 cows and heifers with fair attendance and stronger prices. consignments included Load New York State cows and springers, Load Canadian cows and springers, locally consigned cows, first calf heifers and open cows. Beef cattle sale was active with stronger prices and included utility and high dressing cutters and various feeder and bull categories.
Slaughter steers gain up to 50 cents, cows and bulls rise to 75 cents and more. Steers mainly 34 75 to 35 60, heifers 31 85 to 33 85, cows 23 10 to 28 35, bulls 31 85 to 35 00. Calves and vealers mixed with higher tops for prime and good lots, farm calves steady to 50 cents lower. 205 head sold with strong demand for slaughter stock and calves.
New Holland reports 312 head sold as market holds steady with activity. Prices range for riding and driving horses from 140 to 335 and larger ponies from 35 to 70, with work horses and mules also listed.
