County Farmers To Try Two New Tobacco Strains
Two disease resistant tobacco varieties from Penn State University released as Pennleaf 1 and Pennicel 69. They trace to E. E Clayton crosses at Beltsville with testing by H. B. Engle at the Southeastern Field Research Laboratory Landisville. Seed to county growers immediately. Pennleaf 1 known as S-1A highly resistant to wildfire rust and moderately resistant to disease.

Delaware Swine Embargo Lifted by State Officials
Harrisburg April 5 Secretary of Culture William L Henning announced the embargo on Delaware swine has been lifted after a slaughter serum treatment ended the threat of hog cholera in the state. Dr W R Teeter Delaware State Veterinarian said the embargo, placed September 19, remains in effect for breeding or feeding stock moving to Pennsylvania Delaware or any other state until disease free and vaccinated with an attenuated vaccine.

Changes In Penna Seed Labeling Law
Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture William L. Henning announced a change in seed mixture labeling under the 1947 act. Labels must name components at 5 percent or more with exceptions for white clover at 1 percent. all under 5 percent are shown as other crop seed. The regulation takes effect January 2, 1962, and requires listing contents, purity, and germination for each component.

Farm Price Decline Noted For Third Straight Month
Harrisburg reports that Pennsylvania farmers saw a nearly 3 percent drop in average prices for all agricultural products in mid March from February, while prices remained 230 percent of the 1910 14 base. Potatoes and other crops fell, though soybeans and feed grains rose. Eggs increased to 41 cents per dozen, ten cents higher than last year.
