Holstein Butterfat Record In Red Rose DHIA Report

A Holstein cow from the Red Rose Dairy Herd Improvement Association posted 913 pounds of butterfat during lactation. The Jower Frey Jr herd of Lancaster finished an 805 day lactation with 912 pounds of butterfat and 21,295 pounds of milk. An eight year old Tol stein owned by Nolt Brothers set 763 pounds of butterfat in 20,673 pounds of milk for 37 percent fat. Appaloosa Horse Farm Expands Spotted Herd Near Ephrata

Wr and Mrs Charles J Risser of Ephrata bought a spotted mare about 11 years ago and now own five mares a stallion and a spotted gelding. The first mare remains in the herd at Cocahico Creek Acres nursing a colt as part of a growing Appaloosa operation.

County Future Farmers Sweep Area Land Judging

Lancaster County Future Farmers of America swept top prizes in the two county Land Use and Management contest at Elizabethtown. Jerry Snader led with 304 points to win high individual honors among 55 contestants. Gary Jaimes of Kennard Dale won the horseshoe contest. Ribbons followed for R Edwin Harnish and Mark Hotter in land judging. Snader, a 17 year old Ephrata senior, is Cloister Chapter president and county association chaplain.

Farmers Association to Discuss National Farm Legislation

A meeting to discuss national farm legislation will be held next Monday night in Quarryville Fire Hall. Sponsored by Lancaster County Farmers Association, county organizational director Herman Shirk invites farmers from the southern part of the county to attend at 8 pm on April 9.

Gary Porter Wins Egg Roundup at Lancaster Poultry Center

Gary Porter, son of Mr and Mrs Edgar Porter, won the top prize in the H Poultry Flock Management roundup at the Lancaster Poultry Center. He first showed the champion egg exhibit then earned grand prize scoring 99. Judge Fritz Leuschner of Pennsylvania State University awarded second to Leslie Kreider of Hartman Station Road Lancaster with 97.

Five Day Weather Forecast Mild to near normal in week

Five day outlook calls for temperatures two to six degrees above normal with nights around 39 and afternoons near 66. Mild conditions persist through Monday then fade to near normal by Tuesday and cooler by Wednesday. Rain chances include showers Saturday and more widespread rain Monday into Tuesday.
