Ohio promised relief on coal priority suspension
Washington November 10 relief for the Ohio and Michigan coal shortage was promised by the fuel administration. On November 19 the priority order directing central field coal to be shipped to take ports for the northwest would be halted for one day. A prior one day suspension failed to meet immediate needs. Wilson Announces Start Of New Selective Draft Plan
Washington November 12 President Wilson formally launched the new machinery for the selective draft by publishing the foreword to the regulations and forwarding questionnaires to local guards. War department officials estimate the process will take about 60 days and no second call will occur before mid February as classification begins in December. The plan divides all registrants into five classes to create a more perfect organization of manpower with a complete inventory of each registrant to assign him to military industrial or agricultural ranks.
