Government-controlled power is no shortcut to lower bills
NYSEG argues against municipalizing power in Western New York. The piece contends that public control would be costly, years of court battles, and require buying out NYSEG assets worth over 17 billion, with multiple electric and gas providers in Erie County. It emphasizes smart meters, weather-driven bills, and NYSEG’s 170 winters of experience, infrastructure investments, and community philanthropy as justification to keep private utility control.
