Lancaster Library Offers Varied Programs this Fall
The Lancaster Public Library lists hours from 10 am to 6 pm weekdays, with extended Tuesday to Thursday hours and weekend noon to 5 pm. Registration required for programs by phone or online, including Cornucopia Catch Challenge STEM Kits for ages 7 and up and Take and Make crafts for ages 6 and under through November.

Gift of Warmth drives hats and gloves donations drive
M&T Bank and Tops Friendly Markets partner again for the Gift of Warmth campaign to aid families facing housing instability. Collectors accept new hats gloves mittens and scarves through Jan. 3 at banks and Tops locations across the Buffalo Rochester area for Salvation Army distribution. Erie County to start a paramedic academy in January to train paramedics for local ambulances with classes 10 months long at 500 Commerce Drive Amherst. Online applications for SEMTs AEMTs 18 and older accepted through Nov. 22 with a 5000 tuition covering manuals textbooks and exam fees.

Bipartisan push to expand lung cancer screening legislation
Congressman Nick Langworthy and Roswell Park Comprehen sive Cancer Center ally to promote federal bills expanding lung cancer research and prevention. The Lung Cancer Screening and Prevention Act of 2023 would let CMS cover FDA approved screening tests without extra review, while the 2024 Women and Lung Cancer Research and Preventive Services Act directs HHS to assess women’s lung cancer and set a national prevention strategy. Only 6 percent of eligible New Yorkers have accessed screening. Roswell Park invites screenings via the EDDY program and website.
