Bill seeks opt out from New York zero-emission bus mandate
State school districts weigh cost and infrastructure hurdles as Gov Hochul aims for all new buses to be zero-emission by 2027 and full conversion by 2035. Sen Gallivan sponsors a waiver bill allowing districts permanent exemption, arguing funding and practicality gaps threaten programs and services. Local superintendents from Lancaster Depew and West Seneca back the measure as a relief while noting regulatory and electrical challenges. The Rockefeller Institute study backs state funding as a potential remedy and Gallivan's bill awaits Senate Education Committee action.
