Asylum seekers leave Cheektowaga hotels ending long shelter stay
Cheektowaga townspeople report all asylum seekers evacuated from Best Western and Quality Inn hotels by December. Jewish Family Services of Western New York will resettle about 539 asylum seekers, moving most from hotels to permanent housing while maintaining case management through early 2025. Town Supervisor Brian Nowak says the hotels will return to normal operation and discusses funding questions, zoning issues, and planning for future similar arrivals. Maryvale school district prepares for continued McKinney Vento protections and ENL staffing as 60 plus asylum-seeker students remain eligible for district services this year.
