HUD approves 1 7 million loan for Northridge elderly housing

One Guilty One Innocent in Texas Blue Law Trials

Local businessman Ron Scott, owner of Gibson Discount Store, was found guilty by a six person jury in Justice of the Peace Court on Monday facing misdemeanor Blue Law charges. Carroll Hagle, TG and Y manager, was acquitted by a separate jury on Tuesday. The trials drew 40 to 50 spectators and involved local ministers and businessmen as observers. A special prosecuting attorney from Lubbock handled the case.

Plans Move Toward Lamesa High School Renovation

The Lamesa School Board reviewed early plans by Huckabee and Denham of Andrews for a full overhaul of Lamesa High School. No remodel decision yet, but discussions point to a potential bond issue within months. A site visit to Crane is planned and a meeting with financial advisor Joe Smith is expected soon.

Gulf Oil Open House At Lamesa Industrial Park

Gulf Oil will host an open house Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Lamesa Area Office on Elgin Street in the Lamesa Industrial Park. United Way Advance Division Tops 9000 in Dawson County Drive

The Advance Division of Dawson County United Way reported 9040 in contributions Tuesday, about 31 percent of the 29100 goal. Tommy Thompson chairs the division, with Dorothy Haney as overall campaign chair and Ron Layton guiding Gulf as president and superintendent. The office includes Otis Newberry, Jim Butler, Mary Paige, Bruce Kirkland, Ray Mathis, and 10 lease operators among others. The group plans a new office and yard opening tied to Gulf operations.

Cartwright and Burleson top Press-Reporter grid picks

Gary Cartwright and Jerry Burleson each nailed 18 of 20 games in week three, securing first and second prize money of 15 and 10 dollars. Enrollment dips slightly in Lamesa district

The Lamesa school district reports 2,979 students enrolled after two weeks, down 16 from 2,995 at the same point last fall. Superintendent Neal Chastain notes the first day enrollment rose above last year's start with 2,823 students.
