At the Lamesa Cotton Growers annual meeting Tuesday night members went on record opposing the trailer brake law air pollution controls and on the job safety laws while backing legislative efforts for competitive rate insurance. The group also elected new directors and discussed market outlook with Plains Cotton Growers ties noted.

Murder Charges Filed In Saturday Shooting
Walter Gilbreath faces murder with malice charges for the shooting death of 37 year old Santiago Viasana Saturday afternoon at 1508 North 3rd. Viasana was struck by a double barrel shotgun and died at the scene. Police say the motive involved a robbery attempt and choking during a demand for money and car keys. Viasana had been a longtime Lamesa resident with family in area. services were held Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Rectory. Burial followed at Lamesa Cemetery.
