City Moves Toward Water Bond Sale in Lamesa

Lamesa school trustees met long into the night to review more than 40 bid pages and 28 pages of summer maintenance projects, with a Wednesday session set to discuss the athletic program for next year and a preliminary budget. They authorized a letter to teachers about contracts, debated a $400 bonus vs possible state pay raises, and approved remodeling bids, surplus classrooms, report card changes, and accreditation self-evaluation. The board also discussed tuition for out of district transfers, UIL referendum impacts on girls volleyball and boys football, and the start of more girls sports at the junior high level.

Local youngsters rode in the Cancer Society Bike A Thon logging 1444 miles and pledges above 2400 dollars. Winners by division were announced after May 24. Students collect donations at designated addresses. Civic club Jaycees won the bicycle race. The event is part of a Texas Federation of Club Women patriotic effort.
