County agenda dispute ends with beer petition withdrawal

County seeks 750000 bailout for Medical Arts Hospital debt

The seven member hospital board told Dawson County commissioners the county owned Medical Arts Hospital faces 362000 in debt and needs 750000 in supplemental funding to reach a balanced budget next year. Rising Medicare issues and indigent care costs have driven negative cash flow this year, with a 525000 deficit last year and projected burdens ahead.

Rabies Clinic Here Saturday At North Fire Station

The South Plains Health Department sponsors a rabies immunization clinic Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at North Fire Station at North 17th and Bryan. Lamesa veterinarians Dr David Geeslin and Dr David Smith will give shots at 6 dollars each, with distemper and Parvovirus available. At least three rabies cases have been reported in Dawson County this year, latest in mid March in a steer near the southern city limits. State law requires all dogs and cats over four months to be vaccinated.

Open house at Howard College Lamesa Campus Thursday

The Lamesa Campus of Howard College invites area students and the public to an open house 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at 1810 Lubbock Highway. The remodeled facility will offer tours, guidance counseling, and financial aid information. Walter Buckel will receive a special award for his role in development.
