Bicentennial Kicks Off In Lamesa Friday Ceremony
Lamesa’s Bicentennial program opens at 9 50 a m with the Middle School band on the square. The 10 a m ceremony will feature LHS and middle school bands, a Webb Air Force Base color guard, and the presentation of state and national certificates and flags by Mrs Ann Simmons of Luibock to Mayor Lloyd Cline. State Senator Kent Hance attends.

Lamesa Optimist Club Youth Banquet Highlighted by Speakers
The seventh annual Lamesa Optimist Club Youth Appreciation Banquet will occur Saturday at 7 30 p m in the Lamesa High School Student Center. About 85 to 100 high school students from Lamesa Dawson and Klondike will be honored with Bob Murphey headlining as speaker Ed Wilkes will MC. Tickets cost 4 and are sold by local banks and Henry Norris Insurance. The event includes marching bands the color guard from Webb Air Force Base and dignitaries arriving by antique cars. The program features invocations speeches a Bicentennial presentation and flag raising with America The Beautiful sung by bands and choir. Traffic will be diverted for the first Bicentennial event in Lamesa.

Senior Citizens Week Conference Opens May Activities
May has proclaimed Elder Texans Month by Governor Briscoe. Dawson County Senior Citizens schedule a full week beginning May 29 with a Friday aging conference at the Senior Citizens Center. Mayor Cline and County Judge Pratt give welcomes at 10 a.m.. Nadeen Blair chairs. guests include Donna Johnson and Donna Bearden.

New Assistant County Agent Named John F. Farris
John F. Farris will become Assistant Dawson County Extension Agent effective June 11, replacing James Reeves who resigned April 30. Farris, a current vocational agriculture teacher at Dimmitt, is married to LaNelle Adams with two children Chad and Julie. The couple are Methodists. O'Donnell Kicks Off Bicentennial With Flag Ceremony
Mayor Alvin Hogg received state and national Bicentennial certificates and a flag as O'Donnell began celebrations. Clark's Rangers fired a powder volley in the gym scene while students sang and danced, marking the town's first Bicentennial program. Ronald L. Herring, a soil conservationist, is transferred from Anson to the Dawson County Soil Conservation District. Tarleton State University graduate in agriculture education, he has one year with the Soil Conservation Service and recently assumed duties.
