Lamesa Rodeo Week Opens With Parade and Night Rodeo
Lamesa's annual rodeo begins Thursday continuing through Saturday with eight rodeo events at 8 p.m. nightly. A Thursday 5 p.m. parade features seven floats, an Air Force Color Guard, sheriff posses, and riding clubs, ending at Lobo Park. A community barbecue and western dance cap off each night, with the Owens Country Sausage pony hitch as a special attraction.

Vernon Bratcher named to Texas ASCS committee post
Vernon Hap Bratcher of Lamesa has been appointed by U S Secretary of Agriculture John Block to the Texas Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service committee. He is the first Dawson County state committeeman. The committee runs federal farm programs in Texas. Bratcher, 58, farms 1,760 acres with his son Andy east of Lamesa.
