Lamesa banks report record mid year deposits near 96.2 million

Mid year figures show Lamesa banks with 96.2 million in deposits as of June 30 up about 900 thousand from a year earlier, with total including savings and loan offices exceeding 151 million. First quarter levels were higher due to cotton sales, while loans reached 69 million, up 15.7 million from a year ago.

Two coaches still needed at Lamesa High School

Lamesa High School needs two more coaches to complete its staff as Athletic Director O W Follis expects to hire this week. Five coaches have been hired including Head Football Coach Julian Bush, who replaces David Bonds who moved to Lockhart High School.

Teens Die and Girl Burned in Farm Accident Near Lamesa

A teenage boy was killed and a young girl badly burned when irrigation pipe touched a high voltage line at a farm 14 miles north of Lamesa around 11 15 a m Saturday. Investigators say they were trying to remove a rabbit from the pipe. condition of the girl was unavailable. Deputies and DPS troopers, plus two Lamesa Ambulance units, responded. names withheld pending next of kin notification.

Miers Remains Critically Injured After Texas Crash

A 24-year-old Lameson man, Steve Miers, stayed in critical condition at Health Sciences Center Hospital in Lubbock after a Monday night one vehicle crash 13 miles south of Brownfield on State Highway 137. His wife Phyllis and stepdaughter Christy Maddox were in serious or stable condition, with two other passengers treated and released. Miers sustained severe injuries after the Ford Station Wagon overturned and struck a power pole, reportedly contacting live wires and losing several limbs.

Audit of Justice of the Peace Nelsons books to take weeks

Officials say a ticket by ticket audit by Mathews and Mathews with county auditor Donald H. Stephens will take at least three weeks to finish before any further action in the burglary case against Justice of the Peace Richard Nelson. Nelson was arrested June 28 for allegedly stealing more than 5000 dollars in furniture from Amos Supply. The books were impounded after his arrest and review began last Monday as prosecutors await the audit before moving forward.
