Cotton mowing and chair repairs draw county commission focus
Dawson County commissioners met in regular session at the courthouse to address use of the U.S. Highway 87 right of way, upholstering six chairs and purchasing 12 new ones for the county welfare office, and two folding tables. They appointed Bowen Cox to upholster and procure chairs and tables, added two new museum board members Alton Addison and Stanley Nolan, and accepted a Roy Motor Company bid for a 1979 Dodge pickup with a trade-in for 4975. The meeting adjusted the next special session date to December 29 and discussed fire contract details.

State offices move to South Bryan Street in Dawson County
The Department of Human Resources moves Monday at 8 30 am to a single new building at South Sixth and Bryan Streets housing five offices and two clerks. County Health and Welfare remains in the Houston Street Library. An Open House is planned for early January for residents to see the new facility.

Three Evenings of Music by Chorale and Bands at Lamesa High
Dawson County residents can hear Renaissance dinner music and two Lamesa bands over three nights at Lamesa High School. The Chorale night Saturday features a 7 30 p m English dinner and Renaissance activities. The band concerts follow Monday and Tuesday evenings with a bake auction led by Police Chief Lee Bartlett Jr. showing a Jones Stadium film of the Golden Tor Band earning a first division rating. Admission is 1 for adults and 50 cents for students.

Accident leaves two Lamesa women in hospital
The first car pedestrian accident of the year in Lamesa left Grace Woodward and Ruth Black injured. Woodward remains at Medical Arts Hospital and Black was moved to Methodist Hospital in Lubbock with two broken legs and a separated knee. The collision occurred at 7:50 p.m. in front of First Baptist Church on South First Street. Driver Cynthia Ann Barfield, 19, of North Fourth Place, could not stop before striking the two women as skid marks trailed behind.
