Area Labor Day Weekender Promises Mixed School and Sports Events
Labor Day brings stores open for shoppers and a school holiday for Dawson County students. Tor Explode showcases football players from seventh grade to varsity with bands and cheerleaders at 7 p.m. Admission is 50 cents. The fall gridiron season opens Friday with the Tornadoes hosting Carlsbad at 7:30 p.m. Junior Varsity and Freshman teams start later. College Enrollment Rising Despite Jeopardized Courses
About 100 residents signed up for locally taught college credit courses with Howard College local coordinator Mrs. Carlton Buesing guiding registration through September 15. A Wednesday session yielded 98 enrollments, with several courses likely to meet, including freshman composition, psychology, sociology, accounting, law enforcement, juvenile procedures, and shorthand, while others like US history and real estate faced low turnout. The plan aims to offer evening freshman composition if possible, though some classes remain underenrolled.

Trio Convicted In Drug Case
Three men were convicted and sentenced in a drug case. The proceedings named the defendants and outlined the judgment handed down by the court.
Explode Tuesday Night at Lamesa High School
Tornado fans will meet the current and future gridiron players when Tor Explode returns at 7 30 p m at the Lamesa High School stadium. Booster Club hosts the event to introduce players coaches and cheerleaders ahead of the season opener. Volleyball teams will join as fall activity moves forward.
