Community Leaders Shine In Industrial Site Talks

A tall kindly man in his early seventies toured Lamesa meeting the local Chamber industrial team. He seeks sites, labor data and facts for plant location while visiting other areas. The Chamber and team are praised for working behind the scenes to attract industry. optimism grows as weeks pass. The Optimist Club plans May 11 Youth Appreciation Banquet at the High School Student Center with EJ Holub as speaker. Three federal agencies will present findings at a 2 p.m. public briefing in Lubbock on the West Texas Eastern New Mexico Import Water Study at the Koko Palace Convention Center.

Banks Report Record $51.9 Million Deposits in Lamesa

Lamesa banks show deposits of $51.9 million for the first four months, a rise of about $8 million from a year ago and over 16 percent. The late cotton crop and selling season boosted liquidity while pre-planting work remained low.

Klondike and Flower Grove School District Consolidation Set

An April 30 consolidation election is ordered for Klondike and Flower Grove school districts. Voters in both districts must approve the merger to form the Klondike Consolidated Independent School District. Balloting runs 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. with polling in Klondike and Dawson County absentee voting.

Hogg Named VP at Lubbock National Bank

Nelson Hogg, current vice-president at First National Bank, resigns effective May 1 to become vice-president in the agricultural loan department of Lubbock National Bank. A Lamesa native and Texas Tech alumnus, he has served about three and a half years at FNB and is treasurer of the Lamesa Chamber of Commerce. SEE HOGG PAGE 2.

Naymon Everett Day Honors O'Donnell Barber of 50 Years

Naymon Everett, longtime O'Donnell barber, was honored on April 5 1923 marking fifty years in the trade since he began barbering at age seventeen in Gail and O'Donnell. He trained at Amarillo Barber College, then worked in Clovis NM and Lamesa for Roy Mills Allen Seal and Jess Walker.

Oil Committee Maps Emphasis For September

Chamber of Commerce members outlined plans for a September oil month with speakers for civic groups and ladies organizations to educate Lamesans about the industry in Dawson County. Chairman Travis King said information would focus on drilling and exploration, pipelines and ecology, and well servicing. See Oil Page 2.
