Leadville Lead Rail Rates Face Interstate Commission

The Interstate Commerce Commission held an all day session in Leadville to hear testimony in the Leadville Board of Trade versus the Denver and Rio Grande, Colorado Midland and Colorado and Southern. Moffat Road Financed And Rail Link Planned

Denver and New York reports say David H. Moffat secured 2.5 million dollars in Denver and foreign capital to build the Denver Northwestern and Pacific railway connecting Salt Lake City with Denver. Plans include 20 million in bonds and 20 million in stock with preferred and common shares. The line links San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake with Denver, not to compete but to form a chain between cities. Boulder Oil Well Advances In Colorado Prospect

Advices from Boulder report the Crawford well struck oil late last night and by 7 PM a 1000 foot column of oil stood in the well. The drill has penetrated only fifteen feet of oil sand beyond the hard cap rock, with oil preventing further depth. The well lies near the Meafe field, where an 1800 foot oil column awaits heavier casing.

Government to invite foreign powers to Butte mining congress

June 22 in Butte Montana Secretary Mabon of the International Mining Congress received a note from Secretary Hay stating the federal government will invite foreign governments to send delegates to the September five day session in Butte. Hay asked Mabon to forward 500 circulars about the meeting to distribute to foreign powers.

Besieged by Bears at Colorado Depot

Denver reports a bear siege at the Union Depot South Park division as three bears, including a cub, besieged Alpine Tunnel operator Miller. Glenwood Springs Strawberry Festival Draws Thousands

A Republican special from Glenwood Springs reports Glenwood's fifth annual strawberry festival drew crowds surpassing prior years with about 8000 visitors. The Hot Springs company offered free pool use for 600 guests, 4000 attended free strawberries and cream at the opera house, visiting newspaper men were entertained at Odd Fellows hall, and a grand free street dance with electric lights and bunting capped the day.
