Ohio laws invalidated by Supreme Court ruling
Columbus, June 28. An extra session of the Ohio Legislature appears necessary to correct a tangle created when the Supreme Court ruled several laws invalid. The court declared Cleveland city government unconstitutional and voided Toledo’s special law shifting police control from Mayor Jones. It also noted a vacancy in the lieutenant governor’s office, while Nippert’s appointment as probate judge of Hamilton County and Archer’s role as President Pro Tem of the Senate were treated as pending succession. The Royer act limiting Supreme Court jurisdiction was sustained, and Governor Nash was directed to appoint a lieutenant governor.
