State Board approves land purchase for irrigation ditch
At the State Board of Land Commissioners meeting in Governor Cooper's office the Colorado Land and Canal Company proposal to buy half the State school lands in Pueblo Otero and Kiowa counties and to build a 225 mile ditch was accepted and the contracts ordered signed. The plan includes a two year lease on remaining lands to secure water rights with a 30 day cancel option. Lands will be advertised to the highest bidder with a minimum bid of 2.50 per acre. Henry, president of the company, said work will start with 3,000 men and teams as soon as contracts are signed to complete the ditch and secure water rights quickly.
