First Fourth Celebrated at Leisure World Laguna Hills
Leisure World Laguna Hills marked its first Fourth of July as a retirement community on a Sunday with veterans from Laguna Hills Barracks 16 presenting colors. Over 1,000 ship members and 88 veterans resided there, selling more than 700 American flags to fund two color sets. The Booster Jamboree Contest offered a European and Africa trip as first prize for referrals. The fire station project was approved, costing about 187000, with firefighters housed in model homes during construction. The 50th anniversary events were scheduled for September with a club expo, talent show, gala dinner, outdoor concert, golf tournament, and a Friday pool loan, plus a mid-summer 50th Anniversary Book priced at 50. Myra Neben edited Leisure World News, now Laguna Woods Globe, from 1977 to 2005.
