Crystal Cove plan timeline stirs locals over resort
A public Crystal Cove meeting drew about 400 opponents to a $35 million resort plan in January 2001. The Parks agency later dropped a resort contract with Michael Freed, received a $2 million buyout from the California Coastal Conservancy in March, and hosted community workshops. By October officials released a preliminary proposal, then final plan and EIR in October 2002, with a Dec 2 public comment deadline. Pending approvals could push first phase to next summer, opening much of the historic district and cottages in summer 2004.
