High Wind Fanned Widespread Woods Fire

A Sunday brush fire along the river spread rapidly due to dry conditions and rising winds. Firefighters, volunteers, and back-firing saved several homes near Mr Scott and Ivan Lepley as the blaze burned through Friday night into Sunday. The rain that night was welcomed as relief.

Musicians organize county unit to foster music

Rusk County musicians meet at the Congregational Church with reps from Ladysmith Bruce Glen Flora and Atlanta to form an organization aimed at advancing music. Officers are elected led by W H H Ingle with a $18 treasury after a $35 gate and concert proceeds. A ball game Ladysmith defeats Turtle Lake 11 to 4. a staged program follows at the opera house.

Library Board to Send Belle Conklin to Wisconsin Course

At a recent meeting the Library Board voted to send Miss Belle Conklin to a special Librarian's course at the University of Wisconsin Madison to enhance library service and support local schools. Citizens are urged to assist with expenses and to improve library etiquette for a more efficient, educational community resource. Donations include The Encyclopedia Britannica 9th edition, Looking Backward, The Jungle, and The Golden Bottle.

Change of Time for Wisconsin Central Ky Service

Wisconsin Central Kentucky will operate daily except Sunday between Ladysmith and Abbotsford starting Monday June 17. Train 902 departs Ladysmith at Sa m arriving Abbotsford 11 30 a m. Train 901 leaves Abbotsford 2 15 p m arriving Ladysmith 5 45 p m. Direct connections at Abbotsford with north and south trains.

A Beautiful June Wedding in Ladysmith

Miss Ella Louise Corbett and Mr. Raymond Fillmore married at the Corbett home in Ladysmith on Saturday June 8. The event featured floral decor, a Mendelssohn wedding march, and a reception with multiple courses as guests from Cumberland Neenah Buffalo and others attended before the couple plans to reside after August 1.

Ladysmith Plans Fourth of July Celebration

Ladysmith will celebrate with a planned Fourth of July event promised to be a great time for visitors. A local baseball club discussed the celebration and has $200 already subscribed to the fund for activities. Chippewa Falls and Bruce are set for a feature game.

One Act Drama A Little Game With Fate

The Bethany Sisters directed event last Friday evening drew a good crowd. Proceeds of 19 dollars fell short of expectations, but the program held strong interest. New Grant Dam Construction Advances

The Grant dam work is progressing rapidly with 110 workers removing rock from the Young and Aspin farms. Five cars of material are moved daily as the cofferdam nears completion and water may be diverted by mid July or early August.

Death of Mrs Chris Mellum in City Home

Mrs Chris Mellum died in her sleep from heart failure at her southeast city home. Found by her husband after the six week old child cried. Born 1874 in Brooklyn NY. Burial at Riverside cemetery with Rev D Jayne officiating. The infant remains seriously ill and the husband received $41.80 from the Rusk County Burial Association.

Martin I. Fogarty of Wausau and Nellie May Adams of Ingram were issued a marriage license on June 11.

Fire Destroyed Nelsons Glen Flora Mill

The J. M. Nelson mill at Glen Flora burned to the ground Sunday destroying lumber logs and all. The loss is about 7000 dollars with no insurance carried on the property.

Lutheran Ladies Host Repast for Rev Wolff at Miller Home

The Lutheran Church ladies gathered at Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Miller home Wednesday evening for a six o clock repast honoring Rev. and Mrs. John Wolff. Wolff has accepted a call to Phillips but will preach here biweekly until a resident pastor is found. Mrs. Wolff and Edith join him in Phillips this week. John Ryall and wife visited Owen to meet their son Richard who has been at Delavan in the Wisconsin School for Deaf. he will vacation in Ladysmith and return to school September 1. Dr Quigg, chronic-disease specialist, will be at Hotel Gerard Wednesday June 19 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for free examinations and consultations each four weeks thereafter.

Rich iron ore vein found near Weyerhaeuser in Rusk county

The Badger Iron Co. reports three drills active for two months near Weyerhaeuser. Prospecting suggests a rich iron ore deposit under large leasehold tracts. A rumor says a drill to the east is 100 feet into solid ore beyond the ledge.
