Three Out of 4 Factories Now Give Paid Vacations

Washington reports that about three of four manufacturing establishments surveyed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics issued vacation plans for plant workers with a year of service between 1945 and 1946. Nearly seven in ten offices offered paid vacations for office staff, while most plant workers received two weeks. The Electric Light and Power sector led in 2 week vacations, with smaller nonmanufacturing industries showing less. The study notes variability across industries and confirms that many firms grant limited or no paid time off for both plant and office employees.
