Deborah Ann Bills and Ronny E. Vail wed at Memorial Baptist Church on Friday May 5 with Rev. A O Singer officiating. The couple’s parents are G A Bills of La Marque and J E Vail of Alta Loma. The bride wore a Mira Mist over taffeta gown with pearl daisies and a chapel train, veil secured by a tiara.
A bride carried a bouquet of white daisies over a white Bible as her mother did at her wedding. The gown and veil were by her mother and aunt. Mrs Gary Curtis served as matron of honor with Carey and Deidre Adair as flower girls and Gary Curtis as best man. The couple will reside in Alta Loma after a honeymoon. The bride studies at La Marque High School and the groom works for Gulf Chemicals in Texas City.
The Golden Age Chapter of the Mainland held a candlelight installation in the Captain's room at Nessler Recreation Center with R L Jones of Port Arthur as installing officer. The event featured a patriotic theme, corsages, a social hour, dinner, and remarks by Mayor Emmett Lowry praising senior citizen inspiration.
Terry Don Ray, a Blinn College graduate from Brenham, will graduate at commencement on Sunday May 14 at 8 30 p m on Spencer Athletic Field. Dr Billy M Jones president of Southwest Texas State University will deliver the address to 250 graduates. Ray is the son of Mr and Mrs W J Ray of 2611 Magnolia street.
Mainland Mall hosts a weekend arts festival featuring works from La Marque ISD elementary through senior high schools. Displays run Friday evening to Saturday afternoon with ribbons for prizes and no admission charge. The exhibit includes crafts and industrial arts entries including top winners from the Texas Industrial Arts Fair in Austin.
Relatives and friends of La Marque and Hitchcock attended the funeral for Sandy Harris in Galveston on Monday. Attendees included Mrs. E. M. F. English Mrs. Eugene Smith both of La Marque and Mrs. Gussie Evans of Galveston who flew to Chicago for their aunt’s service. Families of Alonzo Hynson Sr. Mrs. Mable Williams Mrs. Etwil Williams and Mrs. R. Woods drove to Marshall for their father’s funeral. Mrs. Hattie Hobbs attended her brother’s service in Huntsville.
Jeanie Black prospective 1972 La Marque High School graduate was honored with a May 6 luncheon hosted by Mrs. Harry C. Jarvis. Twelve guests attended including Black's mother Mrs. E. H. Black and Beaumont residents Mrs. T. R. Reynolds and Korey Reynolds.
At the spring festival at St. Michael's Episcopal Church door prizes were awarded to Gordon Johnson Mrs C R Broman Linda Colston Monty Jay Mrs Millie Halbert Stephanie Sabotik Larry Hokanson Randy Hopper M L Giamfortone and Ellen Lindsay A large crowd enjoyed the day with dinner and entertainment.
Mrs William D Benefield hosted the Jolly Social Club meeting with Mrs Robert C Hall Sr presiding. Devotion by Mrs Clarence Balque. committee reports followed and a final club form report. Next meeting May 17 at Mrs Rozell Dugar home. summer activities to be discussed. Guests included Mrs Saul Andrews Mrs Joyce Davis and Mrs M L Machan. prizes awarded to Mrs Fred Monroe and Mrs Hall.

Mrs McClure Wilson and Amy hosted a brunch honoring Georgia Benton a prospective graduate of La Marque High School On May 6 The honoree received a white gamellin corsage The table centerpiece featured yellow roses with white candles in gold containers Place cards showed small May baskets and flowers with Georgia in gold The menu included orange juice ham with raisin sauce peas fruit biscuits meringues peppermint ice cream tea and coffee for sixteen guests Among out of town guests were Mrs Ronald Die and Mrs Wellesley Benton Jr Benton plans to attend Alvin Junior College to major in nursing
