Ann Combs Kimzey is named Assistant Librarian Cataloger at College of the Mainland, replacing Sherilyn Shaw. A Houston native, she earned a 1962 Spanish degree at Rice University and a Library Science master’s at Illinois, with prior roles at Rice Fondren Library and University of Illinois. She is active in Beta Phi Mu and the ALA, and aims to join the action oriented community college movement. Head Librarian Bob Slaney welcomes her to the staff. Harvey Burnett of La Marque was among about 650 students named to the spring semester business administration honor roll at the University of Texas, per Dean George Kozmetsky.
A bridal shower for Jere Winder bride elect of Gary Syfert was held July 16 at the Nessler Center in Texas City. Hostesses included Mrs R E Smith Mrs David Mings and Mrs C P Eidel bach with aunts as co hosts. About 65 guests attended including the mothers Mrs Kent Syfert and Mrs H F Winder. Blue and white decor and a centerpiece of spring flowers sent by the prospective groom adorned the event.
Ray McDonald president of the Texas Freshman Baseball League in La Marque spoke on league history and community youth benefits at the La Marque Kiwanis Club meeting. Special guests included R J Grimes and attorney Carolton Getty. New officers elected by acclamation: J W Helms president Henry Dowdy vice president Jack McCartney secretary Byron Richards treasurer. Joe Robisheaux to replace Lee Iredale as one year director. continuing board members Robbie Robinson Jerry Savage Bob Brown Lewis Boatwright.

Waggoner exchanged vows at Queen of Peace Catholic Church La Marque on July 17 Rev Wayne Elkins officiated before an altar of Gladiolas and bouquets Music by Sheri Dorsett organist and Mrs Max Dorsett vocalist The couple plan to live in Texas City after a wedding trip to Dallas with both sets of parents named in attendance.
Lamar University announces formal rush for eight national sororities from August 20 to 24. Prospective rushees must register by August 13 with the Panhellenic Association. a Summer Registration Program is required prior to rush week. Sororities include Alpha Chi Omega Alpha Delta Pi Alpha Kappa Alpha Delta Sigma Theta Delta Zeta Gamma Phi Beta Kappa Delta Zeta Tau Alpha.
The La Marque Jaycees sponsor a junior Prissy Missy beauty contest to be held July 31 at City Park at 4 p.m. Entrants aged walking to six must be accompanied by an adult and wear a bathing suit or sunsuit with shoes. Participants should arrive by 3:30 p.m. First place receives a trophy and a gift, with prizes for 2nd and 3rd. Entrants contact Mrs Abram Nicholson at 938-1487.
A miscellaneous shower was hosted for Mischa Foard bride elect of Malcolm C. Davis Jr by Mrs F X Heinrich Karen and Linda Davis. Bridal bingo winners were Mrs Pauline Macaluso Mrs Violet McCarthy and Mrs Estelle Noey. A cake, flowers and punch decorated the refreshment table. Corsages were given to the honoree and her mother Mrs J L Foard and Mrs M C Davis Sr. About 30 guests attended including Mrs Ruby Weaver and Mrs J W McNamara, grandmothers of the couple. The wedding is set for August 7 at the First United Methodist Church in La Marque.
Sons and family visit USMC Major and Mrs P M Johnson and daughters Pamela and Jana in West Texas City while en route from Taiwan to Newport RI for reassignment. Also visiting are Seaborn Jr and his sons Paul and James from Fort Pierce Florida. Seaborn is a state appraiser attending a two week course at the University of Houston.
