In San Francisco on October 6, representatives from 13 commercial groups in San Francisco Oakland Los Angeles Portland Seattle Tacoma and Spokane met to form a Pacific coast grouping. C B Yandell of Seattle Chamber of Commerce and former Washington Governor McGraw led the Seattle group. Yandell criticized government policy of sending Atlantic coal to the Pacific in foreign ships.

Frisco Wharf Fire Consumes Coal Piles in San Francisco

A blaze at the Beale street wharf and Pacific Coal company buildings in San Francisco began in coal bunkers and burned for hours. Four thousand tons of coal were destroyed, part of offices and warehouses burned, with losses estimated between $60,000 and $100,000. LA Mob Attacks Prisoner In Court Lynching Attempt

In Dallas and nearby towns the inaugural register for a vast land lottery opens for seekers to win homes on Rosebud Indian Reservation lands. About 100000 to 200000 registrations are expected as applicants sign oaths in Chamberlain Dallas Gregory or Prosho before October 17. Drawing occurs October 18 in Dallas with parcels totaling 38000 acres, some previously allotted to Indians, on the South Dakota Nebraska border near Gregory County. Ferguson's reports the event.

Black Hand Fire Ravages East Side Tenement

New York Oct 25. Eleven people burned to death and many injured in a deliberate blaze started with oil soaked paper to seal exits. Firemen rescued ten babies by tossing them from windows as flames trapped occupants. Fire Marshal Kelly blamed the Black Hand for the arson and two men rolling barrels into the building before two blasts.
