New York October 3 special report says a police officer tagging the event and three drivers were badly hurt in the first 12 hours of the 24 hour auto race. Strang led in a Renault with Lescault second. Cobe in a Loxer was crushed under wreckage. Barney Oldfield trailed in a Stearns.
Gilbert Aylesworth aged 17 was struck by an auto in San Jose last night. The driver Payton Metcalf nephew of the Secretary of the Navy, fled the scene but was later arrested. Aylesworth suffered a broken leg and other injuries.
Public expression from Wallowa business men approves a Friday excursion from La Grande to Wallowa during the city fire. A special train may run if at least 100 travelers join, with 26 to 1200 participants possible. The trip features a Joseph versus Wallowa football game and horse races as attractions. Local leaders urge business men to sign up and organize the event.
