Russian Attacks Repulsed Near Vhenyagepo and Ta Taen
An official field report says a Russian infantry battalion and six cavalry squadrons attacked the heights north of Vhenyagepo Sunday but were repulsed. A second Russian force moved on Chien Chen Tau Monday and was driven off. Russian cavalry retreated along the Liao river, reaching south of Ta Taen by 5 PM, seventeen miles west of Fakomen.

Foundry Lease Tenders Sought by Oregon Prison
Superintendent 0 W James of the penitentiary Salem announced findry lease advertising for the prison foundry and convict labor as the Loewenberg Going contract with Portland expires July 29. Convicts earn 30 cents an hour and the foundry is rented for 2000 a year under current terms with up to 100 workers. Some workers reassigned to county roads and road dressing.
