Mt Petersburg May 24 There is no confirmation in official circles of a London report that the Japanese cut the Vindivetock railroad It is deemed impossible that a Japanese force could reach the line guarded by Russian skirmishers
General Linovitch states that on May 21 a detachment approached Ohanfu and after a spirited fight the Japanese were dislodged from their trenchments on the north side of the nation.
May 24 dispatch notes heightened tension with both commanders closely watching each other. General Oyama has not yet acted. A reconnaissance by General Kennenkamp’s troops suffered hundreds of casualties.
Ban Francis and J B Young, president and a closely linked figure, were arrested here. They agreed to return to Goldfield by requisition. Requests for release were denied and habeas corpus actions may be started.

San Rabel California May 24 A rancher named J O Stephens near Kentfield killed his wife and five children then shot John Sommerfield and two others before dying by suicide. Neighbors said Stephens had shown signs of insanity for some time.
