The bid from Sutherland and Wall appears the lowest local offer for a seven mile sewer project. A segregation review shows a close total with slight variations. The board will act on the bid at next Wednesday's regular meeting.

North western contractors submitted bids at a special council session to lay a sewer system for Le Grande with projected costs around 1 000 per foot. George H. Sutherland of Walla Walla posted the lowest bid at 41 967 90. Council committees will review all bids next Wednesday evening before reporting to the council.
In Red Cliff Colorado a Rio Grande train derailed in Eagle River two miles west of town. Mrs Katharine Martin of Albany New York and an unnamed child were killed and twenty people were seriously injured. Passengers were moved to Sanldy Hospital for treatment this morning.
Springfield May 11 Chairman Nelms of the Lorimer investigating committee proposed that the senate condemn Judge Petit of Chicago for a decision affecting Edward Tilden the alleged slush funds collector who helped Lorimer win. The committee report was presented and action postponed until Tuesday.
The House Territories Committee voted to favorably report the resolution requiring Arizona to vote again on the recall of judges clause and New Mexico to re vote on an amendment easing constitutional changes. The House will take up the report Tuesday.
Elgin municipal bonds brought a premium of 110 when the city sold 10 000 in new city hall bonds. R Duffy and company of Toledo Ohio bid the premium and secured the issue. Elgin residents celebrate strong financial standing and accelerated plans for the new hall with construction to begin soon after sale completion.

Roseburg Oregon hosts its third annual strawberry carnival beginning May 11 to showcase the area as a leading strawberry growing region. Visitors from distant areas enjoy strawberries and cream and shortcake as parades, band concerts, outdoor sports and illuminations fill a three day program.
