Knights Hold Semiannual Election At Red Cross Lodge
Local Red Cross Lodge No 27 of Knights of Pythias held its semi annual election yesterday evening appointing Jesse B. Paul as chancellor commander. Other officers elected included A Williams Var C Ed Wright prelate Jesse A Kingmas ter at arms E C Meldis M W Inner guard B H Relaland Outer guard J F Baker. Existing officers remain for another year. Ben Noyes of the new creamery visited Elgin today between trains.

Origin of the Alphabet Challenges Phoenician Credit
Johns Hopkins scholar Dr Paul Haupt told the American Philosophical Society that the present alphabet results from a joint Semitic Egyptian and Greek creation rather than Phoenician invention. He argued Phoenician symbols lack sea or commerce connections and cited non Jewish Grecian influence on Palestine culture.

Professor Boas of Columbia University reports that second generation families among immigrants have two to three children, similar to native stock.
