A trusted employee of First National Bank in Seattle was arrested on embezzlement charges. He reportedly lived beyond his means by diverting funds, with the scheme partly financed through real estate gains. Bank officials claim the loss is insured and the matter is under investigation.
Beattie H F Parkhurst first assistant cashier of the Firet National Bank of Seattle was arrested on a charge of embezzling about 489,920. He allegedly falsified bank accounts, confessed to living it up, and invested some funds in real estate. He served 12 years with the bank.
In a fragmentary report, Parkhurst, 45, married 24 years, is described as living quietly with friends aware of irregularities in the ledgers. The excerpt hints at a mystery over how bank inspectors failed to detect tampering in the accounts.
