Two horses owned by Mr BB Morelock were fatally struck by a train in Elgin as the locomotive backed to spot cars. The driver jumped from his wagon to save himself, but the animals were hit on the track and collapsed at a trestle, their injuries requiring immediate destruction.
The Dalles Chronicle describes preparations for the gallows yard clearing as the week ends, noting condemned man Nimamia?nae maintains calm, claims innocence, and interacts calmly with fellow prisoners before the hanging.
Public notice warns all in arrears to settle at the city office. Water rates must be paid in advance by the fifth of each month or service will be shut off after ten days. References cited to city ordinances and sections governing collection and shutoffs.
