J W Mann of Western Union leads a crew to Elgin Jones Pier to start a telegraph line on the right of way. About 17 men from Elgin join. work progresses at roughly one and a half miles per day with an expected finish near the time of the steamer laid.
Crystal Rebekah lodge No. 60 installs officers for the coming year including N G Mre, R. JH Worstel, Jennie Smith secretary, Lillie Cox treasurer, Anna Bay financial secretary, Helen Vehra warden, Minnie Vanderpoel conductor, Jene Bunnell inside guard, Minnie Roush outside guard, Mary A. Fraker L G, Etta Haynes R G, Bertha Kelley L V G, Cora Fitzgerald chaplain, Nellie Arbuckle, and Nellie Arbuckle among others. A large attendance observed the installation. The lodge meets weekly with strong turnout.
