Interesting Life of 1.8 Gardane the Old Vet
Past eighty years, he is spry and active and a veteran of the Civil War. Gardane, once elected to the state legislature from Umatilia county, attended a recent reunion in this city. He joined the navy in 1846, was shipwrecked twice, fought at Shiloh and Vicksburg, and served with Sherman’s march to the sea. Now a faithful Christian, he remains hale, mentally sharp, and hopeful to near the century mark.
