The aviator Hamilton completed a two hour non stop flight from Governors Island to Philadelphia on schedule. Beginning in November 1900 he has focused on dramatic stunts rather than long distance races and prior to the Philadelphia trip he flew fifty three miles, including twenty six and a half miles over land and sea from San Diego. He has survived near fatalities during tests with balloons dirigibles and kites, including a Paterson dirigible ascent that ended with a parachute like descent from 14 000 feet.
