Thieves Steal Heirlooms from Portland Home

In Portland Oregon on a Sunday night burglars took 175 in cash 1000 in jewels a jeweled sword once owned by Sir James Douglas heirlooms gowns valued about 2000 in total 4000 including a gown worn by Mrs. Douglas when presented to Queen Victoria. They damaged a small safe but did not explode it and fled with valuables tied to a prominent English family.

Vice-Consul Thervicy of Mexico in Tacoma was shot by two youths after being confronted on the street. The bullet lodged near the spinal cord causing paralysis in one arm. robbers fled and were not captured. The victim was taken to hospital for removal of the bullet.
