The whisky case against Charles Anderson began in the circuit court with a swift jury selection. At 11 o’clock the state opened, contending Mike McDowell bought whisky from Anderson and was later arrested, with police still holding the liquor. McDowell testified as did Officers McLachlen and Carr who arrested him. Co. H. Finn leads the defense and objected to each point.

Wilbur Wright, the American, broke records at Le Mans France by flying 4 miles in an hour and 63 in and 69 seconds. He may claim the 29,900 franc prize unless beaten before year end.
Portland detectives announced two suspects were arrested in connection with the O R N express car robbery near Portland. A train tramp offers identification. Messenger Huff blocked the raid by opening the safe and saving valuables while losing over $300.
Newton and Arthur Dennis of Prosser attempted a land rush race to file on government land from Sunnyside to North Yakima. Their car struck a sand bank ten miles east of Sunnyside, injuring Arthur Dennis who suffered a broken arm. The incident damaged the party’s vehicle and halted the pursuit.
Pasco Washington December 18 news confirms the Open River Transportation company will launch a river service between Celilo and Pasco. The Inland Empire will depart Celilo on the morning of December 20 for its maiden voyage signaling a new boat link with Portland forthcoming.
In the English Channel today the Swedish steamer Lindholmen and the German steamer Frederick E Muller collided. The Lindholmen sank after the crash and eight sailors were rescued in a small boat, badly injured.

Judge Knowles noted the defendant’s awareness of a mentally unsound householder, rejected alibi evidence, and cited mandatory sentencing despite sympathy for the defendant’s family circumstances.
Senators plan to investigate President Roosevelt over his order to withdraw the Marines from battleships. A resolution asks the military affairs committee to determine Congress authority to set Marine Corps rules binding the president as commander in chief and whether the corps should be continued as prescribed by law.

Snyder former state auditor William L Matthews former treasurer John H Sanderson contractor and Jas M Shumaker former superintendent of grounds were sentenced to pay a 690 dollar fine and two years in prison for conspiracy in the grafting tied to the Pennsylvania state capitol building project costing over 13 million dollars with eight million alleged as graft.
