Bombardment of Port Arthur Follows Hill Capture

Tokio reports the Russian battleships in Port Arthur came under effective bombardment after the capture of 203 Metre Hill. Previously sheltered under Pai Ya mountain, the ships now face direct Japanese fire, with a ship set ablaze and others forced to sea or endure serious damage. President sends 1500 recess appointees to the Senate

The President submitted a batch of offices to the Senate on the second day of the session. The list includes 1500 individuals appointed during the recess.

Jury Returns Guilty verdicts in land fraud trial

In Portland on December 7 the jury found Horace G Kinley Puter Daniel J Tarpley Emma Watson and Marie Ware guilty in the land fraud case. Frank Walgsmot pleaded guilty earlier and not included. The two week federal trial focused on conspiracy to defraud the United States with land located in 7 1. The court warned of penalties under Section 6440 including fines up to 10000 and two years imprisonment. Subpoenas will require Senator John H Mitchell and Congressman Hermann to testify on December 15 in Portland before Judge Bellinger.
