Fire destroys residence in Old town. limited salvage possible

Albert Patterson’s home on Second and Bstraete in Old town burned after eleven PM fire spread from a lean to near a wood shed. Neighbors alarmed, Patterson brothers saved a few items while most valuables were lost as the old structure collapsed. Cause undetermined. no financing reported.

Patriots' Day Observed Across Massachusetts Towns

In Massachusetts Patriots' Day was observed with drum corps color guards and band concerts in Lexington and Arlington. The Irish American Historical Society held its annual meeting and banquet. Arlington's Fife and Drum Corps traced the Paul Revere route, visiting monuments and decorating tablets and the Soldiers' Monument.

Marathon Run to Boston Opens Amid Large Ashland Crowd

Ashland Massachusetts April 9 a large crowd gathered one mile from the depot of Anne land to witness the Boston Athletic Association marathon starting at noon. The twenty five mile course runs from the reservoir through Beacon and Exeter Streets to the athletic club house with prizes for the first eight finishers and souvenirs for twenty five finishers. A cyclist guides the runners and escorts the field as needed.
