WrIght Shook Ds Knowles and Rusk win key primaries amid close margins. Varying majorities mark a heated race with strong crowds at the office waiting for precinct results. Democratic and Republican contests differ, with unsettled results lingering into the morning and late decisions in close races.
The Union County stock show and market drew large crowds for a successful event. Davis Randall and Wright figures sparked close contests while Prancing Animals and Private Conveyances highlighted the parade. Naomi Kirtley and Marjorie McCall led the procession with fine horses and private coaches, as spectators praised the day’s displays and management.
With about a third of statewide votes counted, Hill leads in Portland papers say Fulton concedes early. Eberhard concedes county to Rusk by about 90 with 73 more to spare in Union. Sheahan leads Crawford for district judge in Wallowa, while in Multnomah Cake leads Pilton by about 4000. Fulton concedes Cake nomination pending final results.
In Clatsop and other counties the count shows Fulton trailing Cake with Cake at 11 040 to 10 394 in Fulton home county. Incomplete returns from 37 of 40 precincts indicate Cake ahead and likely to secure nomination for Judge A M Cake over United States Senator Fulton. The official tally covers Multnomah down to Coos and Harney with Portland precincts still unreported.
A San Francisco report states that Allen the American dancer in Europe is Maud Durant sister of Theodore Durant. She rose to fame after a bubble murder trial years ago and later pursued dancing in Europe with modest success, her notable work being the Dance of the Seven Veils.
Dain Kelly of Baker City Oregon, a printer’s apprentice, joins the New York athletic event circuit. He will compete in the 220 yards, with Bernieg Wefers as a likely competitor. Wefers declines to believe the Oregon boy has ever run 220 yards in ten seconds.
