A Monday start will begin rearranging the Elks Building second floor after purchase. The main reading room stays. the left corridor rooms become a single lodge room with an ante area. right side changes include converting living areas into a dining room and kitchens, while the first floor gains a new floor and uses the west room.
Two large scrapers hauled by multiple crews moved yesterday to smooth rough patches at the athletic park. Workers expect a well-packed soil base and a top quality baseball field with the fence nearly complete and the grand stand under construction as timber is cut to shape.
Final arrangements for a series of baseball games between Pendleton and La Grande have been completed. Manager Lorimer of Pendleton and La Grande management set the schedule with La Grande playing here Saturday and Sunday and returning games next Wednesday and Thursday. Jack OBrien is managing La Grande with a reportedly professional nine. Pendleton opens away at Walla Walla in a week.
Members of the New Hampshire department of the Grand Army, the Sons of Veterans, Daughters of Veterans and Woman's Relief Corps meet for an annual encampment in Concord. They stay through Friday with a campfire at White's Opera House and numerous entertainments and banquets for veterans, their sons, wives and daughters.
