Dowie’s lawyers deny reports that he surrendered to Voliva’s forces or would accept a five percent settlement. They assert no settlement or return to Mexico without followers is planned, and Voliva threatens to disclose alleged Dowie bribery methods.
Gorky in New York telegraphs support as his associates face murder charges in Caldwell Idaho. Gaylord Wilshire, American Socialist, sent the telegram approved by Gorky, later regretting the move. Mrs J G Phelps Stokes denies scandal and Gorky is ordered from the hotel to stay with Wilshire.
President Mitchell declined to discuss the labor situation in bituminous and anthracite fields. He leaves for Indianapolis this evening and had received an invitation from Gorky to meet the forces but declined due to prior engagements.
