La Grande mayor M K Hall exercises his first veto over a city ordinance regulating storage of gunpowder dynamite gasoline and refined petroleum products. The veto cites redundancy vague sections and enforcement risks amid ongoing council consideration and possible revision.
Tokyo reports US Russia talks on Manchuria spark concern in Japan. A Washington dispatch says the United States will oppose both Japan and Russia to dominate Chinese affairs in Manchuria. Consul Fisher cites US demand to abandon Japan's status, while Japan's Foreign Office resists the harmony view and says Washington is not opposed to Japan's position.
Final arrangements are in place for the Montana department of the G A R to host veterans from across the state in Butte. Growth in membership by about 10 percent over the past year signals a large enthusiastic gathering.
