August C. Backus of District Court selects a second man and appoints a La Crosse lawyer to aid an investigation of circuit courts and to recommend changes to avoid law’s delay. The move aims to speed justice and reduce backlog.
Lieutenant Governor Morris names John E. McConnell of La Crosse and Judge August C. Backus to a Wisconsin committee to investigate circuit court methods and recommend simplifications to be presented to the 1915 legislature. The body, chaired likely by C. P. Bird, aims to speed business, remove delays, and reform jury conduct across circuits.
In New York on September 23, Assistant District Attorney Dele Donald and Dr. William Malone of the Manhattan Hospital for the Insane planned to examine Hans Schmidt, the priest of St. Jos e church, to assess his sanity after the murder and dismemberment of Anna Aumueller.

They escaped after a desperate struggle with guns and shot. Word spread of the panther’s cries and fear rose. an armed escort is now protecting children to school as an organized hunt seeks to kill the beast.

Miss Mary OConnell daughter of Bernard OConnell of 109 South Fourth street departed on the Burlington at 10 38 last night for Washington D C to attend an exclusive school for young ladies.
A large crowd is expected at the fair opening today as grounds already crowd with late entries possibly not shown. Organizers warn that the rush may limit entries and viewing time for stock exhibits.
