Sunny Weather Forecast Warns of Fire Spread North of Stevens Point

Sunny weather is forecast for several days as officials fight a wildfire north of Stevens Point that has burned about 1,600 acres since Friday. Forest Ranger Jerabek warned lines may not be secure with drying conditions and noted other fires across Wisconsin, including 400 acres at Camp Douglas and 400 more in Wood.

Lakeview Razing Bid Accepted By County Board

The La Crosse County Board accepted the low bid of 33 300 to raze the old Lakeview Nursing Home in West Salem. Gronewold Crane Service of New Berlin will perform the work, the lowest of six bids. The board also approved a 2974 bid to dismantle a water tower at the site, with Marell Inc. of Hillsboro as the low bidder. Additionally two highway department bids were approved: a 10388 dump truck from Dahl Motors and a 54533 re construct bridge bid from Lunda Construction Co. The landfill ordinance was amended to provide a credit for the first 50 of business and set hours 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday with Saturday work if a holiday falls during the week.

Waukon Area School Enrollment Rises By Thirteen

WAUKON Iowa The Allamakee Community School District reports official fall enrollment at 1157, up 13 from last year. Allamakee High School holds 599 students, an increase of 10 over the previous year.

Campbell Town Sees Possible 47000 Surplus by Year End

Former town treasurer Mrs. Mary Ritchie predicts Campbell could post a 47000 balance by December 31 amid a 40125 state aid loss and pending levy limit rulings from Wisconsin Department of Revenue. She factors in bank accounts and anticipated revenues to justify the surplus.

Refinery Fire Victim In Critical Condition

A Northwestern Refining Co worker, Dennis Nielsen, 33, Inver Grove Heights, remained in critical condition after a fire at the Northwestern Refining Co plant in suburban St. Paul Park. The blaze began about 8 50 p m and was under control by 10 30 p m with no known cause or damage estimate. production was not affected.

Campbell appoints new clerk and treasurer at meeting

Arnold Every aged 39 and Phyllis Barenthin aged 36 were named Campbell town clerk and town treasurer respectively at the regular meeting. They will begin immediately in part time roles amid a pending municipal audit with bids to be opened and the audit due by October 30.
