The Tribune launches a popular voting contest offering two city winners and one winner each from Wisconsin outside the city, Minnesota, and Iowa a complete Shetland Pony Outfit. Each prize includes a thoroughbred pony, harness, and a rubber-tired buggy.
The La Crosse newspaper offers a ten percent commission to contestants who bring in new business and do not win prizes. For $500 in new subscriptions, a non winner would earn $50. The policy excludes old business like collections and applies only to new cash subscriptions.
The notice outlines eligibility for a youth contest open to anyone 16 or younger residing in the district. Proper nomination on a blank form is required, with daily published names and vote counts when possible. Coupons count for ten votes, ballots go to the Tribune Contest Manager, and commissions are paid on new business brought in.
