No sign of robbery or struggle, instrument missing. servant discovered the bodies as dawn broke. police have no clue to the killer.
A 1900s tale recalls President Roosevelt gifting a molar to Lulu B. Glover who mounted it in a ring with two large diamonds. On her death she left Roosevelt as sole legatee and directed proceeds to charity. Now the jeweled tooth faces public sale as trusts ponder the old bite icon and its curious legacy.

Chicago creditors say Jesse Edson Hall diverted about 315000 of Belding Hall Manufacturing funds into risky ventures and mining stocks. A receiver was appointed as Hall reportedly remains in Canada facing possible criminal action. The company shows 575000 in direct liabilities and assets of 400000 to 450000. The missing president’s two children remain with a housekeeper in Winnetka awaiting word.
In Altoona on September 7, George Russell aged 80 from Blue Knobs went to Gardner Morrow and Co to withdraw his savings. The firm closed in September 1896 and Russell, unaware of the collapse, held a $3,000 certificate of deposit. He wept upon learning the bank failed after a lifetime of earnings.
In Morris Park New York a 24 hour endurance auto contest progresses Lacroix leads in a French Renault at hour ten. Lozier car 89 derails after leaving the track, performing a somersault. Michener and the machinist were hurled thirty feet but escaped with minor injuries.

Montgomery Ala Sept 7 President William Wilson Finlay head of the Southern railway has drawn public attention amid battles between federal and state courts over jurisdiction in litigation tied to new state 2 cent fare laws. Finlay, born Pass Christian Miss Sept 2 1853, rose from stenographer to top rail positions across multiple lines and chaired the Trans Missouri Traffic association in 1889 1890 before serving as Southern railway third vice president in 1895. He later joined the Great Northern railway and continued rising through the ranks.
Government brush contractor Charles Ott and Joseph Loefflad of Genoa Wis accuse Charles Bair of owning Taylor's Island of cutting brush on or about Aug 15. Blair claims title via tax deed but Ott and Loefflad argue improper title. Civil action seeks $1,000 damages. criminal warrants were quashed after acquittal. Ownership status to be established at trial near Black and the Mississippi.
Judge Ray S. Reid state waterways commissioner left last night for Germany to inspect the German cable system of river traffic. He will study methods to improve the Mississippi and will be away perhaps two months.
